I’ve just discovered that I am aphantasic. This means that my mind’s eye is blind. I am unable to visualise anything. If I close my eyes and try to imagine something everything just stays black. I understand the head of the animation company Pixar found that a substantial number of his best animators have aphantasia too. I wonder if people on here who are designers can tell us if they are aphantasic. Is it possible that this in some way forces some mental processes that mean we have to draw more in order to imagine? If so is it the case that there may be some connection between aphantasia and particular tendencies to use particular processes during design?
