This question takes back to some nostalgic memories during my undergraduate period where my supervisor gave me an answer to find the research topic that I hoped to get from him and in turn asked me to research and submit the topic due course setting a deadline. I'm unsure whether the case is the same here but my suggestion is to look up some articles published in nature or high reputed journals preferably review papers, which would give an idea about the current status of the research area you are looking into. I think this is the first step into research, where you can independently choose the work as the perception of individuals differ.
Apart from scientific data, people perception and various stakeholder view point should also be considered while conducting climate change studies and related issue.
Thank you all so much for the suggestions. My interest lies on the impact of climate change especially environmental impact on equity returns but somehow it is hard to narrow the focus as from what I researched, most of the work is already done.
