Hello Sajor. Satellite Communications is a vast field; it is nearly impossible to recommend a specific topic. You have to research topics of interest to you, and confine your work based on your resources and time. It would be good for you to pick a subtopic. Major topics can be Deep Space communications, GPS, security, safety, video transmission, data compression, networking in space, protocols, etc.

Any research or project which proposes methods for extending the life of a satellite is always a valuable topic. Satellites require maintenance while in orbit to keep them in the right position over the earth and oriented correctly. This is done via periodically firing small jets that readjust the position.. When this fuel runs out, the satellite will eventually move out of position and no longer function. (Before this happens, the last of the fuel is used to move the satellite to a position where it is out of the way in space.)
COMSAT came up with one innovation. That was to allow the satellite to wobble. Do not correct the position constantly, but instead, simply steer the beam. When the position was too far off, then the rockets would be used to re position the satellite. This extended the life of the satellite significantly.
The electronics don't wear out in space. What can be done to extend the life of a satellite indefinitely?
